YFU generally offers these types of programs:

The academic year program provides students with the opportunity to become fully immersed in another culture, not only through a home stay with a volunteer family, but also through enrollment in a local school for a full academic cycle. Students gain fluency in another language, make lifelong friends and have the opportunity to teach others about their own culture and customs.

The academic semester program offers the same experiences as the academic year program, but is designed to accommodate students’ home country school schedule. Not all YFU organizations offer a semester program, so it is best to check directly with your local YFU office.

Several YFU organizations offer short-term theme-based educational programs in areas such as social service and the arts. These programs, typically ranging from four to eight weeks, give students an opportunity to live with a volunteer host family in another country while gaining skills in specific areas of interest.

YFU offers a few programs for older students who have completed their secondary schooling or who otherwise do not meet age requirements for the other YFU programs. Some of these programs offer themed educational activities or specialized academic, technical or vocational programs.
